About our Founder

Steve Dwyer of Fredericksburg, Virginia, founder of Mid-Atlantic Insurance Associates, passed away on March 30, 2004. Steve Dwyer encouraged insurance carriers to expand and develop insurance markets for the large growers as well as the small growers. In 1978, when Steve first started he worked out of a small room in the basement of his house for one small mutual insurance company.

Most of us that knew Steve, could usually expect to see a large smile on his face and a warm handshake. For those of us that worked with Steve, we saw long hours in the office and even longer hours on the road with his clients. Steve dedicated his career to serving his clients needs and improving the relationship between the client and the insurance company. Steve knew no boundaries....... and in 25 years things have changed.

Today, Mid-Atlantic Insurance Associates serves over 500 clients in more than 15 states from two offices. Mid-Atlantic has relationships with more than eight Property & Casualty Insurance Carriers, including Nationwide Agribusiness, Zurich, Safeco, Companion, Selective, Ohio Casualty, The Hartford, Rain & Hail and Westfield. Mid-Atlantic remains completely focused on the Horticultural Industry including Commercial Greenhouse Growers, Garden Centers & Landscapers, Nursery Growers, and others.

Steve left Mid-Atlantic Insurance in good hands.  Steve’s sons Sean, Scott, and Evan all work full-time at Mid-Atlantic. Steve’s brothers Jeffrey Dwyer and Don Uhlman are also long time key members of the team. Our customer service representatives are the best around.  The service team is made up of Stephanie Conners, Mindy Hibbs, and Susan McDonald. Steve’s wife Jeanne Dwyer is still involved and is the sole owner.

From all of us at Mid-Atlantic Insurance, we say thanks Steve!
